Christ Bearer from North Star speaks... - 2004-01-06 16:10:58

Wu-Tang Corp. recently sat down with Christ Bearer from North Star for a short interview. Initially it was supposed to be a recorded interview but due to technical recording difficulties we can’t present the interview to you the way we would like to do it. This doesn’t mean we have nothing to say about this interview though, so here we go.

Christ Bearer explained where the North Star name comes from. North signifies their roots on the North Side of Long Beach while Star reflects the word’s significance throughout black history. “We want to let people know that you’re a star when you determine you’re a star,” Christ Bearer says. “That’s what we bring to the game.” North Star can also bee seen as the star that helps people to navigate on the great seas. He also explained their own names: Meko is actually Meko’s birth name and Christ Bearer simply means “the bearer of Christ.” A lot of fans thought that North Star belonged to the Black Knights under the moniker Black Knights of the North Star. That is actually untrue since there was never a split or merge with the Black Knights ever. It’s all cool between them, for those that think that there might have been some sort of conflict. Warcloud has also been really busy, a little too busy maybe according to Christ Bearer’s view on it he’s getting a little too involved with his work. He’s currently writing childeren’s books and will hopefully be publishing his work soon.

“It feels really good to finally put out the album after six years of hard work,” he mentions. Solo albums are not far away, Meko and Christ Bearer both have solo albums in the making. You’ll definitely be hearing from North Star in the future. Wu-Tang wasn’t the first big act to notice North Star, both Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg were working with North Star in the mid 90’s.

After a few minutes of asking the obvious questions the interview turned into a nice conversation about all sort of things including the current state of Wu-Tang. Christ Bearer mentioned that Birth Of A Prince is a great album and clearly stated that Inspectah Deck and Raekwon should quit getting beats from producers outside of the family. “Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke,” he said. Outside of the Wu, he is currently feeling Talib Kweli and Kanye West.

Next the conversation turned into politics, culture and religion. Christ Bearer has been with the Nation Of Islam since ’92 and besides the Islam he’s studying ‘everything’, “because it’s a universal thing.” He also suggested a nice book to read titled “Message To The Blackman.” If he had the chance to meet George Bush, he’d tell him to “stop being a fucking asshole.”

You might have a chance to talk about these topics directly with him since he also mentioned that he’s a frequent visitor of the Wu-Tang Corp. website and also claimed that he loved it. Furthermore he would like to say peace to all the fans and supporters of North Star.
