As the U.S. led invasion of Iraq is in full effect, the question of Iraqi casualties, particularly civilian casualties looms large. While reports by the Iraqi government reports 194 civilians dead, and the International Red Cross accounts for only 14 deaths, international press are reporting numbers between 199-278 deaths. As the mainstream American media focuses only on American casualties in its coverage,
Inspectah Deck
weighed in on the situation saying that
Americans need to realize that while the fighting is now taking place overseas, we are not immune from the violence. "We've never been in a situation like Iraq where somebody's flying over us and dropping bombs... We may see that in our lifetime... There's gonna be death on both sides and its gonna cost..."
Deck added, "What I'm educating brothers on is that it's bigger than what you see on CNN...life is the best teacher right now...they mishandle information...they're not allowed to tell you this, but they can tell you that...it's all in the eye of the beholder. It's all how you decipher the information and use it to your advantage..."
Inspectah Deck's upcoming album The Movement drops on May 20th, 2003.
