After a brief hiatus, it's official,
Cappadonna
is back! Following his second release entitled, The Ying and The Yang, which was released with little label support, Cappadonna now teams up with Code Red Entertainment. 2003 ushers in the newest and strongest musical chapter in Cappa's ever-evolving hip-hop story.
Entitled The Struggle, with its self-explanatory cuts, it proves to be a lethal album of lyrical substance, powerhouse production and unique, straight from the street performances. "Throughout my career people have tried to label what I do, but I can't even do that, and wouldn't if I could," says New York based Cappadonna, the last to join the
Wu-Tang Clan
, and the first to admit he wants to elevate his individual artistic identity. "This album," he adds, "reflects the streets and the trials and tribulations of life. What is a victory if there is no struggle involved?"
Born in Brooklyn and raised in Staten Island, Cappadonna bonded with members of Wu-Tang Clan in preschool. Little did he know at that time, these were the brothers who would one day launch his successful music career. At age 15, Cappa knew he had a gift to write poems describing the trials and tribulations about growing up socially, politically and economically deprived in Black America. He then began writing rhymes, and mastering the microphone.
After making a name for himself as a featured artist on the platinum plus selling solo sets of
Raekwon
and
Ghostface Killah
, and blessing Wu-Tang's second album with more of his introspective lyrics, Cappadonna emerged as a solo artist, vastly experienced and more than ready for the world, as The Pillage established him as a formidable artist in his own right. The album peaked at #3 on Billboard's Top 200. Cappa has blessed the mic with some of the greatest such as
Biggie Smalls
,
P. Diddy
,
Jermaine Dupri
,
Da Brat
, as well as his Wu affiliates.
For his latest effort, Cappadonna has enlisted his true blood brother,
Lounge Mode
to feature on several tracks on the album. Lounge Mode (aka Lo Runner the new comer) is far from that, as Lounge has been credited for giving birth to the innovative names such as
Method Man
, Cappadonna, and
StreetLife
, to name a few. He is world famous for his infinite street slang. Who better than his own brother to add a tasteful twist to an already well made concoction.
Other flame throwers featured on the album include
Inspectah Deck
, Raekwon the Chef,
Remedy
,
Solomon Childs
, as well as the underdog,
King Just
. Relating to the vivid pictures painted throughout the album is an essential part of experiencing The Struggle. "My job is to make people think, or at least give them something real to think about when they're listening to my joints," says Cappadonna. "Everyone has experienced The Struggle, in one way or another".
The Struggle offers stinging urbanized impressions, laced with ghettoized spiritual awareness that remain indelibly imprinted on one's mind long after the CD takes it's last spin. Urban reality based straight from the hood where it gets no harder, only tougher, tracks like Blood Brothers, Cap is Back, and Role Of A Lifetime will strongly reinforce that.
Other highlighted tracks include Momma, a tribute and dedication as well as Season Of Da Vick, a story telling saga of the street. Get Away From The Door teams Cap up with Inspectah Deck in this gutty performance and lyrical barrage. Surprisingly enough and pleasant to the ear, Cappa attracts the radio with songs like I Don't Even Know You, and Do It (Push) a rap friendly production with an upbeat, feel good, get down and party joint guaranteed to rock the clubs in 2003.
The Struggle will be released in September, 2003.
