The man who boldy claimed there was no father to his style returned to the limelight immediately after being released from a New York mental facility in May.
Dirt McGirt
, formerly known as
Ol' Dirty Bastard
, shared his first day as a free man with members of his family, Roc-A-Fella Records CEO
Damon Dash
and VH1 camera crew. After serving a two-year sentence for a number of drug offences and for violating his parole by escaping a court-mandated clinic in 2000. Dirty and his entourage had news to share with the world - ODB is now riding with the Roc, ya bastards! Here's what he had to say a few days later.
The Source: While incarcerated, what did you do to keep your mind off the time you had to serve? Did you do any writing?
ODB: My legs were on the run. I didn't have no time to write; niggas was trying to kill me up in that prison. I was thinking about something else.
S: How long will you be on parole?
O: For a year and a half.
S: Do you think they tried to make an example out of you?
O: Yeah, definetly, because two years is a long time for an entertainer. What the fuck you keeping an entertainer down for so long? For a lil' piece of drugs?
S: So, you are an official Roc-A-Fella artist. How long did it take to make that decision?
O: A week to two weeks.
S: How did that come about?
O: I gave Dame a call, we kicked it, and we said, "Let's do this!"
S: What made you go to the Roc?
O: I like Jay, that's my main nigga. He the coolest nigga! He's calm, so he taught me something, that you don't gotta be yelling and screaming and you can still get paid.
S: What kind of contract do you have with the Roc?
O: It's a five-album deal.
S: How is your relationship with the rest of Roc-A-Fella's artists?
O: We got a cool relationship. I'm just happy to be there.
S: What are your plans now?
O: Knock out an album in three months and try to have some featured artists like
50 Cent
,
Mariah Carey
,
Jay-Z
,
M.O.P.
on it.
S: What's up with the Wu, y'all still family?
O: Yeah, of course, we gonna make an album this year.
S: You got a lot of work to put in, you ready?
O: No! I'm just bullshitting, I'm ready.
S: What's up with
Brooklyn Zoo
?
O: Brooklyn Zoo is another thing. That's my team and we always gonna roll with the six-pack. The shit is gonna be lovely, man.
S: Are you working on other projects?
O: I got two movies - one of them is called Warriors and the other is the sequel to State Property. I got the Dirt McGirt clothing line coming out in the fall.
S: You're not wasting any time.
O: Definetly. I just wanna do it like Tyson - no talking, just get in the ring.
S: When it's all said and done, what do you want your fans and people to know about ODB?
O: I want them to see me as a businessman.
S: If you weren't doing music, what would you be doing?
O: I'd be in Brooklyn on welfare smoking a blunt.
